Recovery Activity- Paper Crane Positivity

An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane, such as long life or recovery from illness or injury”

This is a great project to do when you’re feeling upset or triggered.

  1. Buy yourself some origami paper in colors or prints that you love or cut any piece of paper into a square.  If you’re recovering from self harm, I’d recommend buying origami paper so you don’t have to deal with scissors while you’re feeling triggered.  You can buy it at any craft store and it comes in amazing colors and patterns.
  2. Write how you are feeling, what urge you’re having, or a wish or goal you have for your recovery on the reverse side of the paper.
  3. Follow the instructions in the image to make a paper crane or check out this video tutorial.
  4. Find a way to display your cranes.  If you’re not triggered by a needle and thread, you can turn them into garlands, as seen in the picture, and hang them up in your room.  You can also put them in glass jars or in boxes, or tape them up on your wall.
